Evaluating the health status of employees is necessary and mandatory, in accordance with Articles 186-191 of the Labor Code and in accordance with Article 7, letter a), Article 24, and Article 25 of Law 319/2006 on safety and health at work, to ensure the safest possible working environment.

Employers are required to perform the following two medical examinations:

• At the time of hiring: to determine the psycho-physical aptitudes of the employee in accordance with the activities specified in the job description;
• Periodic examinations: to detect potential health issues in a timely manner.

Occupational medicine is carried out for:

• Evaluating the health status of employees in relation to the specific nature of their role and their working environment;
• Providing employers with advice on occupational risk factors and how to avoid them;
• Managing and archiving medical documents;
• Interfacing with state control bodies.

There are several advantages to conducting occupational medicine, both for the employer and the employee.

Advantages for the employer:

• Assess the risks of occupational illnesses for the employee;
• Determine whether the employee's health is affected by occupational risk factors (such as the work environment, microclimate, and the nature of the work performed).

• Gain an accurate understanding of their health status, both at the time of hiring and regarding its evolution in the workplace.
